Khalifa Sall

Mayor of Dakar (Senegal), Chairman of United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLGA)

Teacher by trainng, Khalifa Sall holds 2 Masters in History and Constitutional Law.

In January 1995, he was appointed Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister, and was responsible for relations with the Parliament in the second and third Habib Thiam government.

He was appointed Minister of Trade and Handicrafts under the government of Mamadou Lamine Loum. In 2001 he was elected to the National Assembly.

During the local elections in March 2009, he led the coalition of Benno Siggil Senegaal ( "Uniting to raise Senegal " in Wolof language ), outweighing the Senegalese Democratic Party in power. In April, Khalifa Sall was elected mayor of Dakar by a landslide majority. He succeeded to Pape Diop, a member of the PDS and Senate president, ousting Karim Wade, the son of the president.

Mr. Sall has been the Chairman of the Executive Committee of United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLGA) since 2012.
